It’s Puppy Love!!!

My daughter’s and I visit the local animal shelter weekly.  We’ve been wanting to add a new puppy or dog to our family but didn’t want to rush into things. We’ve not only experienced the loss of a beloved family pet this year but also the loss of a foster pet that we dearly loved.  The last six weeks or so have meant regular trips to the humane society, animal shelter, adoption events, etc.  No I wasn’t being picky or snubbing the dogs that were available, I was looking for the perfect one for our family.  I just knew that when I found him or her it would not only be love at first site, but there’s be just this sort of connection.

We found him!!!!

He’s black as coal, had the saddest eyes I’ve ever seen and was sitting by himself in a cold, dark kennel at the shelter and couldn’t stop crying & whining.  He broke my heart.  I picked him up and knew instantly that he was the one for me.

He’s cute as a button, bigger than I’d ever dreamed of owning and he’s sitting here on my lap trying to help me type this blog post at this very second.

He doesn’t have a name yet and we don’t even know his breed, but we love him. Oh yea we do, big time.

The names the girls have chosen are so varied that it’s insane. The tops of the list are Versace, Max, Joey, Spike, Riley, Shadow and who knows what else. I don’t like any of them and can’t make a decision.  I’ve claimed him as “mine” and told everyone that I get to name him.

The people at the animal shelter said the guy who dropped him said his mother is a pure bred cocker spaniel, he’s got huge webbed style feet like a Labrador Retriever but a face/nose like either a Pug or gosh even a Boxer. I’m clueless.  I can’t get a picture of him because he’s so black that I can’t even get his face to show up.  I’m going to take him outside when my daughter get’s home and hopefully if she’s holding him still I can get a good one to post so you can see him.

He’s approx. 6-8 weeks and is already the size of a Jack Russell. Help me now!!! He’s going to be HUGE.  --- More to love

Regardless of his breeding, he’s the sweetest, cutest, happiest, wonderful puppy ever.  I saw him Friday, 5 minutes before the shelter closed I went running in just for a quick look around. Knowing that Saturday there is crazy, I try to visit on Mondays and Friday.  Since they already knew me, the adoption process was quick and simple, but they had to follow the rules so I coldn’t pick him up untin Saturday morning.  He went from a really bad life to a life of luxury and warm, cozy happiness.  He’s got toys, blankets, pillows, more toys, chewy things, sweaters to keep him warm and more.  He’s now a pampered puppy!

Well, I better run for now. He thinks the computer mouse is his new chew toy and doesn’t understand why he can’t play with my moving fingers as I type.

Ivanka Trump for Little Shelter Animal Rescue

Ivanka Trump, real estate developer, star of the Apprentice and daughter of billionaire Donald Trump, is putting her celebrity status to good use. She is the newest spokesperson for the Little Shelter Animal Rescue.

Little Shelter Animal Adoption Center, one of Long Island’s oldest no-kill shelters, is dedicated to saving all companion animals whose lives are in jeopardy.  Through rescue from kill facilities, rehabilitation of sick and un-socialized pets, and a 100% spay/neuter program, Little Shelter hopes to end pet overpopulation and place all dogs and cats in loving homes.  Located in Huntington, New York, Little Shelter is the only animal organization outside New York City that is a member of the Mayor’s Alliance.

Isn’t the Australian Shepherd in the photo with Ivanka adorable! I just love Australian Shepherds. If I lived in a bigger place with a big yard, I’d definitely have one.
